Kitchen Essentials in a Vacation Rental


One of the reasons why people choose vacation rentals over hotels is so that they could have their own kitchen. Therefore, ensuring you have all the essential items in your kitchen is crucial.

Assuming you have the standard kitchen package (fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher) here’s more you could add onto your list to OUTSHINE your investment property.

Let’s break down on these items!

Eating & Cooking & Prepping Essentials:

  • Silverwares: always make sure you have double the amount.

    • For example: if you have 4 dining chairs, make sure you have at least 8 forks, 8 spoons, 8 knives. Having tea spoons / small forks as well as chopstick is important too.

  • Statement plates & small plates & bowls: like the last point, have double! Best to get the durable ones that are dishwasher friendly so you know they can be re-used again and again

  • Plastic cups & bowls & utensils: if your place is chidlren-friendly, these items could be handy to have

  • Sharp knives & clean cutting board (invest in a knife block)

  • Heat resistant spatula & a ladle (wood is fine)

  • Tongs, peelers, scissors, can opener, wine & beer opener, lemon squeezer

  • Food prep items: stainless steel strainer, vegetable strainer etc.

  • Pots & pans & skillets: at least 2 of each

  • Baking items: mixing bowls & measuring spoons & measuring cup & baking tray

  • Mixing utensils: whisk, spatula

  • Oven mitts

  • Cork trivet/heat mat

 

Drinking Wares:

  • Mugs: similar to utensils, have double the amount of your dining chairs

  • Glasswares: wine glass, cups, decanter

 

Cooking Items & Basic Replenishment:

  • Olive oil

  • Salt & pepper

  • Sugar

  • Coffee

  • Coffee mate/creamer

  • Tea

 

Small Appliances:

  • Kettle

  • Coffee Maker (plus Nespresso will be a great combo!)

  • Toaster

  • Blender

  • Instant Pot/Rice Cooker

 

Cleaning Items:

  • Kitchen garbage bags

  • Food compost bags

  • Recycling bin

  • Supplies (Barkeeper’s friend, baking soda, vinegar)

  • Clean scrubs or sponge

  • Dish detergent & dishwasher pod

  • Hand soap

  • Paper towels + holder

  • Microfiber towels

 

Safety Items:

  • Fire extinguisher

  • Kitchen slip-resistent rug runner

 

Other Essentials:

  • Seran wrap

  • Aluminum foil

  • Ziplock bags

  • Plastic & glass to-go boxes/Rubbermaid

  • Cabinet organizer

  • Baking sheet

  • Dish drying rack with mat


Having these items will ensure a Happy Guest when they are enjoying their meals & entertaining their loved ones!

Note that if you have a spacious home (that is perfect for your Guest to entertain their loved ones) having extra sets of everything doesn’t hurt. In fact, your Guest will appreciate having more to make the gatherings better.
