Vacation Rental Cleaning Tips & Tricks
We all know a vacation rental needs to be sparking clean.
We should wipe and sanitize all the surface areas, vacuum and mop, do our laundry, ensuring every little detail is cleaned (the list goes on…) There is certainly more than just that! Let's look at some of our cleaning tips & tricks!
Have a partner in crime!
Whether you hire your own cleaning crew or you clean the vacation rental yourself, it is always a good idea to bring in another person to check with you after the work has been done. In other words, you could really use a second pair of eyes to inspect the details! Our team normally has the cleaning crew to do the housekeeping, and one of our members will go in after the cleaning to ensure quality control and to touch up if needed. That’s just the icing on top of the cake!
Check literally “e v e r y t h i n g”
Self-explanatory, but also crucial. Similar to the last point, have an extra pair of eyes really help!
Here are some common spots that are usually missed:
Bathroom ventilations
Laundry seal & detergent dryer
Dryer filter
Dishwasher filter
Inside the glass of oven & microwave
Eating/cooking utensils inside the cabinet or drawer
Inside bedding (use lint roller to get rid of hair)
Small appliances such as coffee pod chambers, and inside toaster, kettle etc.
Spots that tend to collect dust such as baseboard, light switch & outlet panels and lighting fixtures.
Study the use of these household cleaning supplies well
Sometimes water and multipurpose cleaner just won’t do the trick. You will need additional cleaning supplies to ensure your vacation rental looks “polished.” Some of our cleaning essentials are:
CLR
Barkeeper’s Friend
Oxi-Clean
Windex
Baking soda
Vinegar
We also love to keep a bunch of microfiber cloths handy as they are super absorbent with collecting dust and debris!
Invest in a steam cleaner & ozone generator
A steam cleaner reduce the amount of germs, bacteria, pollutants, and allergens in the space, and an ozone generator gets rid of residual odour and remove air pollutants (wow!) These two items are essential because we can’t just use our cleaning supplies for everything. We highly recommend to purchase these two machines to maintain a high standard of your housekeeping service.
Timing matters!
Check to see how long the average turnover time is to clean your vacation rental. While efficiency matters, what’s more important is to ensure each turnover is done right. If you need a full day to clean the home, block a day (or two) off your booking calendar to ensure your Guest wouldn’t need to wait outside the house on their check-in day because you were still waiting for the bedding to dry up in the dryer. In addition, if you were to use a standard mop (which takes time to dry out) remember to leave the mop and bucket out to dry completely and not hide it in a closet (as the unpleasant moisture smell can linger.) Things take time, but timing really matters in a turnover!
We hope that these cleaning tips & tricks will help you succeed with your vacation rental!
